Bheki Cele says GBV cases should be treated with urgency
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Police minister Bheki Cele’s instructed police officers to prioritise cases of gender-based violence and treat them with urgency.
"You stop everything, you attend to that woman, you go and arrest the perpetrator and you make sure that all perpetrators are taken out of the circulation. Those that harass women, those that rape, those that break houses."
Cele made the call during the annual Festive Season Inspection Roadshow in Gauteng yesterday.

He says he’s very concerned about reports that some victims were turned away at police stations trying open cases.
The minister says having more boots on the ground over the festive period will help improve safety levels.
"You would be walking with SANDF, we believe that everybody will behave so that we don't have communities complaining about your presence."
" You create rapport with communities when they see you, you make sure that they are happy, they walk with you."
