'Better oversight needed over govt spending'
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Some opposition parties say there should be consequences for those responsible for irregular spending in government.
The DA and Cope have been reacting to Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu's latest report that was released in Pretoria yesterday.
Makwetu found that irregular spending has increased by nearly 80% since last year.
The DA's shadow minister for co-operative governance, Kevin Mileham says they will interrogate this in great deal within Parliament's different portfolio committees.

"Each department will be interrogated independently. We will also be looking at how the provinces are spending their money. It's one of the things that I personally have been pushing with Minster Van Rooyen to ensure that there is better oversight of provincial spending," he said.
Cope's Dennis Bloem says it seems as if the country's book keeping and spending is getting worse every year.
"People can talk every day but there are no consequences for anybody who is doing this. must get fees to bite," he said.
