A 44-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the face in the Bergville area.
Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says an 80-year-old suspect opened fire on the man believed to be on the property to collect goats that were illegally confiscated.
"As the man was leaving the premises, the suspect opened fire on him and shot him in the face. The victim was taken to hospital where he is in a critical condition," Naicker said.
He says police negotiators were called in to try and assist in the arrest of the suspect on charges of attempted murder.

The elderly man allegedly opened fire on officers and an exchange of gunfire ensued.
Naciker says the 80-year-old died at the scene.
It is still unclear why the goats were taken.
Naicker says the reason will form part of their investigation.
KwaZulu-Natal agriculture union, KwaNalu says the elderly man was not a farmer and that the incident did not take place on a farm.
