Police have launched a manhunt after a Bergville farmer was murdered in his Rookdale home on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the motive for the attack is still unknown at this stage.
"A 49-year-old man was fatally shot while he was in his yard at his farm. Police are investigating a case of murder. No arrests have been made," she said.
Meanwhile, police say three men have been arrested for allegedly killing and robbing an elderly couple in Nigel, a small mining town east of Gauteng on Sunday morning.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Kay Makhubela, said the three had entered the couple's home early on Sunday morning.
"They stabbed the 69-year-old man several times and he died on the scene. They then went after his 67-year-old wife. She was strangled and also died," he said.
The men then stole items in the couple's home before fleeing.
