Be vigilant when handling 'stokvel' funds: MEC
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Members of stokvels are being reminded to be cautious when dealing with large amounts of cash, especially at this time of the year.

Stokvels have been targeted by robbers in recent years.
Two years ago, a police officer was shot and killed in the Empangeni CBD while pursuing a man who had allegedly robbed three women shortly after they withdrew more than R100 000 from a bank.
Economic Development MEC, Sihle Zikalala is also advising stokvels not to spend more than is necessary.
"We advise and request our people to be cautious and not to overspend money obtained through stokvels. Let us be responsible. While it's good to enjoy ourselves, taking care of our future is important," Zikalala says.
