Batohi: NPA not in crisis, Cronje transition normal
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
National Prosecution Authority (NPA) boss Shamila Batohi says the prosecutions body is not in crisis.

She was speaking on Monday at a briefing.
She's addressed media reports that the resignation of the head of Investigating Directorate, Advocate Hermione Cronje, was sparked by personal conflicts between the two.
"The interest of the country is important to Advocate Cronje and I. It is important to note that in high pressure and high stakes environments, occasional tensions or occasional disagreements are normal.
"The ID was and remains under considerable pressure to perform and it is my job as a national director to ensure that it delivers.
"An investigating director and the national director need to be fully aligned on the overall strategy of the Directorate on the prosecution's strategy, the priorities and case-specific strategies and then act with razor-sharp focus on these."
Batohi says leadership transitions are normal and often healthy.
"If we are not focused on that and we cannot do that then we are in a crisis. This is not the case.
"Advocate Cronje was appointed in May 2019. It's a tough job in a tough environment so it should be a surprise or a concern that after this period, she had decided to move on."
