Basic needs as important to voters as corruption - Zikalala

The ANC’s in KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala believes bread-and-butter issues as just as important to votes as the fight against corruption.

He addressed the ANC ’s much-anticipated 9th provincial elective conference on Friday.
Zikalala, who is contesting the position of chair at the conference, told delegates at the same time they must not accept the narrative that the ANC has done nothing.
But he admitted issues such us unemployment and poverty are losing the party votes.

“When you get there to campaign, issues that face us as the movement are not about what we are doing to fight corruption, but the poverty, service delivery, unemployment and housing.
“And I am not saying corruption is right, I am saying you can say you are fighting corruption but people will tell you they are hungry,” he said.
Zikalala addressed over 1 thousand 600 delegated from 11 regions of the province at the conference at Durban's Olive Convention Centre.
Credentials for delegates were also finalised late on Friday.
Members set to contest for the top post are Zikalala, Finance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube, and businessman Sandile Zungu.
