The results of the National Senior Certificate are expected to be released on 19 January and published on 20 January.

Officials sent out consent forms to Grade 12 pupils to give consent to the publishing of their results online and in newspapers.

This follows the introduction of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) which requires the granting of permission before the use of personal information.

Education spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says they will abide by any request from the 921 000 candidates who sat for the exams.

"We received a lot of responses, and we are currently processing that, and that's why we are working throughout December to make sure that by the time the results are released by the Minister on 19 January everything has been done and this is the first time it is happening so there is a lot of work to be done."

Mhlanga says the department will not publish the results of grade 12 pupils who have not given written permission.
