Ban of SA ostrich meat exports lifted
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya

In 2011, there was an outbreak of avian flu on Western Cape ostrich farms, with several birds being culled.
Since then the industry has lost millions but made up for it by eventually exporting precooked ostrich meat.
The South African Ostrich Business Chamber's Francois de Wet says it is difficult to say how much money the industry has lost.
"A couple of thousand jobs were lost in the process, in the processing unit as well as on the farms and I think slowly the ostrich industry recovered and I think we have a good future for the ostrich industry from now onwards," he said.
