A 32-year-old man, who allegedly swindled more than R100 000 from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) accounts, is due to make a formal bail application in KwaDukuza on Wednesday.
He allegedly used stolen social security cards to commit the crimes between August 2020 and July this year.
Police nabbed Tumbikani Mzamara in Ballito earlier this month.
They'd received information about a vehicle in the area, suspected to have been stolen in Ntuzuma.
Mzamara couldn't tell officers where he got the car from.
KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Nqobile Gwala explains what police later found at the luxury Ballito flat he'd been renting.
"Police recovered 771 various cards, cash, laptops, computers, ATM and other belongings and property. The suspect was then arrested and charged with possession of stolen property."
Mzamara also faces charges of fraud and contravening the Social Assistance Act.
