‘Absolute pandemonium’ - Ballito resident recounts construction tragedy
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
A Ballito resident has described the moment a bank at a construction site collapsed over the weekend, resulting in the death of four people.

Tom du Toit says he and his wife were at home on Zen Drive, ready to go shopping, when the incident happened next door to them on Saturday.
"I heard screams and also like a rumble the sound of an avalanche. Something said I should go outside with a cellphone in my hand I ran out to the patio, and I saw the foreman.”

Du Toit says he jumped over his wall with a spade in hand to start digging the mounds of sand - while the medics made their way to the scene.
He's described it as a horrific experience.
"It was absolute pandemonium. The guys were crying and lying on the floor and screaming and shouting. I said to the guys in charge we need order. Where are the guys? Because they were against the wall, and I said they need to be away from there.”
