Bail decision on grenade attack expected
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Durban Magistrate, Vanitha Armu is today expected to rule on whether the Amanzimtoti man accused of killing his wife with a hand grenade will be granted bail.
Forty-four-year-old Joel Mohoasa allegedly rolled two grenades on the kitchen floor towards Letshego Mohoasa after an argument.
Magistrate Armu is set to consider the arguments presented by the State and the Defence on the reasons they believe Mohoasa will not evade his trial.
The State indicated last week that they are not opposed to bail on the basis that Mohoasa's passport and ID have been confiscated and he had turned himself in after three days on the run.
On Friday, the court heard how Mohoasa was a victim of physical and verbal abuse, even going so far as to approach the Durban Magistrates Court earlier this year for a protection order against his wife.
The order, which was granted, detailed how she tried to kill him.
The order also prevented her from entering his place of work, a sports bar in the Amanzimtoti area.
