Back to school: Education says ready to welcome learners back
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The National Department of Basic Education says it's ready to welcome learners back next week to kickstart the 2022 academic year.
Schools in inland provinces will open on Wednesday 12 January while those in coastal provinces open a week later on Wednesday 19 January.
Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga has urged parents to prepare their children as there are different return dates across SA provinces.
He says it is critical that the entire school community adheres to Covid-19 protocols this year.
"It is not just about re-opening schools but it is also about ensuring that once we do teaching and learning is not interrupted, especially with regards to COVID-19", he said.
"We can mitigate the COVID impact by adhering to protocol and if we do that we should make good use of the time on our hands", Mhlanga said.
