World-renowned musician and struggle icon, Hugh Masekela believes South Africa needs to go back to the drawing board.

Masekela was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal yesterday for his contribution to the music industry.
Masekela spent three decades in exile and fought the apartheid government through his music.
Responding to a question at the graduation ceremony, Masekela provided a broader view of the political environment in South Africa.
"It's not only fees that must fall, everything must fall so that we can get back to what was originally fought for and what so many people died for and all the promises that were made. All those things are not visible yet," he said.
Masekela has also called on Africans to explore and embrace their heritage.
During his speech at the Westville Campus, where hundreds of students were graduating, Masekela said we should unearth our Africanism.
"Let us carefully examine the true history of our continent not the European or imported ones that were forced on us following our defeat. To satisfactorily concretise this, the study of mother tongues will have to be seriously prioritised," he said.
