BA pilot bound for UK sacked after drug-fuelled night in JHB
Updated | By Newswatch
A British Airways co-pilot has been fired after allegedly taking drugs before he was due to fly from South Africa to the UK.
According to the British tabloid The Sun, Mike Beaton went out to a nightclub in Johannesburg where he met two South African men and two female holidaymakers from Wales and Spain.
It's reported the group had a few drinks before heading back to a local man's flat, where cocaine was brought out.
The co-pilot is said to have boasted about the wild night in a text message to a stewardess colleague, who then raised the alarm.
BA says the flight Beaton was supposed to be operating last month had to be delayed while a replacement was found.
The airline says Beaton was flown as a passenger back to London and then tested for drugs.
The results are said to have come back positive.
BA says he is no longer employed with the airline.
