Athlone Bridge closure warning
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
Motorists in the Durban North area are being asked to avoid Athlone Bridge and the surround area between 11am and 1pm today.
The bridge and some of the nearby roads will be closed during this time. City engineers will be busy conducting a survey. Spokesperson for the eThekwini Metro Police department, Parboo Sewpersad says the closure will affect traffic routes.
"All vehicles travelling east, on Athlone Drive, and travelling south, on Masibalala Yengwa Avenue, will be effected. The hard closures will remain in place and there will be police personnel to divert traffic," the eThekwini Metro Police Department's Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad says.
Sewpersad explains how traffic will be diverted.
"At Athlone Bridge (south-bound), traffic will be diverted at Humber Crescent, towards Riverside Road, via Tyne Place or Soofie Saheb Drive. At Athlone Bridge (northbound), traffic will be diverted at Athlone Drive, towards Riverside Road, via the M4".
