Sports and Recreation officials says they are to challenge the judgement.
The department and Athletics SA will lodge an appeal at the Switzerland Federal Tribunal.
Earlier this month, the court ruled in favour of the IAAF which had argued that female athletes such as Semenya had an unfair advantage over others and must be forced to regulate their testosterone levels.
Just days after the judgement, three-time world champion won the 800-metre race at the Doha Diamond League meeting and told the media that she's not prepared to take hormone-suppressing treatment.
