Arts and Culture mulling action against DA election advert
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga and Nushera Soodyal
The Department of Arts and Culture says it's seeking legal advice in response to the DA's controversial election advert.
The ad depicts the South African flag going up in flames.
The DA's defended the clip, citing concerns about the country's state.
The opposition party says it wants to convey its message of a country in trouble, the threat to democracy and an urgent warning of a coalition between the ANC, EFF, MK Party and Patriotic Alliance.
President Cyril Ramaphosa's called it treasonous. Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa's seeking advice on how to respond.

"The minister condemned the strongest terms, the burning of the national flag in the DA political flag," says spokesperson Litha Mpondwana.
"The minister says the desecration of the national symbols should not be part of the national campaigning and should not be tolerated in any instance. We are taking steps to ensure that there are consequences for such actions."
The DA's national spokesperson, Solly Malatsi says the burning flag, is a metaphorical depiction of how South Africa suffers under the ANC government:
“In the very same ad, the flag is restored which is a representation of the hope that we can resuscitate South Africa to prosperity. It’s very telling that (Minister Zizi) Kodwa has decided in an ill-advised mood to attack our ad instead of addressing the pressing issues at hand.
"This attempt to divert attention in an irrelevant legal case is a very desperate ploy."
