Arrested UKZN students to appear in PMB court today
Updated | By News24
Eleven University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) students arrested during violent clashes with riot police are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court later today.

The group has spent nearly three weeks behind bars since they were first arrested.
During their last appearance the state had opposed bail on the basis that the group posed a danger to the public.
Magistrate M. Boikhutso had said that she wanted to view CCTV footage that identified the eleven students before she would make a ruling on their bail application.

The students were detained during a day of running battles with riot police as protests over tertiary education fee hikes wore on.
Several students were injured in exchanges with police and the university said it was investigating claims that live ammunition was used.
Another protester was injured when he lay down on the road and was hit by a car.
