Application to stop SAA job cuts dismissed by Labour Court

The Labour Court has dismissed applications by unions seeking to stop South African Airways from retrenching staff.

Unions NUMSA and the SA Cabin Crew Association approached the court after SAA's business rescue practitioners said job cuts were possible as part of several measures to try get the airline profitable again.

SACCA's Zazi Nsibanyoni-Mugambi says they are shocked by the ruling.
"They dismissed the application based on the fact that the company has not served any employee with a section 189. notice formally, so they dismissed it on those grounds and we are absolutely shocked by this decision," said Mugambi.
