Application for march at UKZN Westville denied
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Student leaders on the UKZN Westville campus have not been granted permission to host a march because of a court interdict in place preventing illegal gatherings.
Members from the National Intervention Unit raided two residences yesterday, arresting nine students, seven of whom were apprehended for trespassing as they are not registered students.
Although calm has been restored to all UKZN campuses, police are still monitoring the grounds at the Westville campus.
Two police nyalas, a water cannon and three police vehicles can be seen outside the Risk Management Services building.
According to management at UKZN, the academic programme is proceeding well with no reports of protest action at any of its campuses.
Security will remain on high alert and students have been reminded to carry their identification cards with them at all times.
