Appeal for law enforcement to track down gangs terrorising Zululand areas
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development has urged police to work with speed to track down those responsible for a spate of attacks on women in communities in Zululand.
In the latest incident, the body of local resident Baphithizile Mbatha was found after she was reported missing earlier this month.
MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza says gangs terrorising communities are known criminals.
In an appeal to law enforcement teams, the department's Mhlabunzima Memela says Mbatha's murder has sparked fear and anger among locals.
"We, therefore, call on the law enforcement agencies, especially the police in that area of Zululand, to work very hard to ensure that there are no criminals terrorising communities in these areas.
"Our province has been encountering a number of killings of women of this province as we see that is also happening in that area of Zululand."
