Appeal for community assistance in solving KZN medic's murder
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane has made an appeal to community members to be part of the solution, as police try to track down those who shot and killed paramedic Phumzile Zulu.
The MEC's condemned the attack describing the killing as cowardly and barbaric.
"We find this act very cowardly and act that shows that some people no longer value human life because they were shooting indiscriminately at both the patient that was being picked up and the crew that was picking up the patient.
"This kind of act is an act that must be condemned in the strongest form because it must very continue."
Cartridges of high-calibre bullets were found on the scene.
Zulu, a 40-year-old mother of three and EMS paramedic, and a fellow emergency responder were called to assist a gunshot victim in Estcourt.
After securing the patient in Mabhanoyini, they themselves came under fire.
Zulu's colleague, who was hit in the stomach, is in a critical condition in hospital.
