Anti-corruption dialogue hears of urgent need to professionalise public service
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The chairperson of the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council says integrity and credibility need to improve in public procurement.
Professor Firoz Cachalia addressed the National Anti-Corruption Dialogue in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, on Wednesday.
"We gonna have to work with the departments, we are going have to work with the Public Service Commission."

"Problems of a lack of discipline in departments are apparently intractable, but if we aren’t able to ensure that we have accountability within departments that amend to deliver services, we're not going to succeed."
Cachalia said the country needs a state that can comply with the constitution.
"That's why we need to professionalise the public service, it’s going to take time, but if we are committed to that project, we will accomplish this goal."
