Another judge will preside over Zuma corruption charges: Judge Nicholson
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Former High Court judge Chris Nicholson says the matter of Jacob Zuma's corruption charges is now for another judge to deal with.
In 2008, Nicholson threw out the Zuma corruption case over which he presided, on the basis there was a political conspiracy and implicated former President Thabo Mbeki.
The decision to dismiss the National Prosecuting Authority's case was later overturned by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Nicholson spoke briefly on the matter after giving the Inaugural Annual Archives lecture at the Msunduzi Museum in Pietermaritzburg today.
''Mine were procedural points at the time and they were later overruled on appeal. So the point that was raised before me has been clarified by the appeal court so I assume it will not arise again.
"I am now retired so it couldn't come before me again. Some other judge will maybe consider the matter afresh but deal with it in the light of the appeal court's judgement," he said.
In a letter earlier this year, Mbeki slammed Nicholson's judgement saying it was incomprehensible. The City Press later quoted Nicholson as saying he stands by his judgement.
