Another hefty fuel hike on the cards
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Motorists could be forking out even more at the pumps next month. The Automobile Association of South Africa is predicting another hefty fuel price hike for June.
The AA's Layton Beard says their prediction is based on the weakening of the Rand and international fuel prices.
“At the moment South African fuel users are facing increases of 74c a litre for petrol, 81c for diesel and, worryingly, 78c for paraffin,” Beard says.
He says the AA is concerned about the increasing price of paraffin,
“At this time of the year, as we enter winter, more users will be needing paraffin for heating and it is becoming increasingly expensive”.
Petrol went up by 49c a litre this month, bringing the cost of 1 litre of 95 octane here on the coast, to R14.39.
Diesel increased by between 58c and 59c depending on the grade.
