Another Covid-19 record as infections rise by over 26 000

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa now stands at 2 046 311.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Saturday evening that 26 485 new Covid-19 cases have been identified during the latest reporting period.
This is the highest number of daily new cases recorded in South Africa since the outbreak of the pandemic.
It is also the second consecutive day in which a record number of new infections were recorded, following over 24 000 new cases on Friday.
The death toll has climbed to 61 507, with 175 new deaths reported.
Gauteng continues to bear the brunt of the third wave, accounting for the majority of new cases (61%), followed by the Western Cape (11%), and Limpopo (7%) provinces.
KwaZulu-Natal had 1473 new cases.
An increase of 557 hospital admissions has also been reported in the past 24 hours.
The total number of vaccinations administered stands at 2 826 192.
