Angry Verulam residents take to streets to demand end to 'pathetic' water woes
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini's Deputy Mayor Philani Mavundla on Friday addressed protesting Verulam residents, who are fed up with water issues in the area, on Friday morning.

The area has been without water for about a month.
Resident Virosha Hemraj says they have reached boiling point and have taken to the streets to get answers, bringing traffic to a standstill.
"We just completely cut off. Residents are left to their own devices. We need to go and source water on our own.
"We are not getting tankers in, if they do come in, they are being hijacked. The community members are scouring tankers and drinking water. It's a pathetic situation."

Hemraj says they've recently handed in a memorandum to the municipality demanding their basic right to access water.
Another resident, Ivan Surajpul, says their water issues predates the flooding.
"We have been on water rotation even before the April flooding. The April flooding further exacerbated the issue where Umgeni Water is not supplying enough water to Waterloo Reservoir and the water reservoir is in turn, not supplying water to us for days on end.
"We do not even have rationing at this point in time. It's just a total shut off."
Newswatch has been unable to reach the deputy mayor for comment.
