Anger as SASSA says gold cards will not expire

There's been mixed reaction in KZN to the Postbank's announcement that the SASSA gold cards will not be expiring anymore.
There were concerns from some social grant beneficiaries when the Postbank said the gold card - which needed to be replaced - would expire at the end of the year.
Now, the institution has reassured grant recipients that their cards will continue to function even after December.
Some beneficiaries have been sharing their thoughts on the news.
Jane Ponnan in Durban says she's relieved she won't have to wait in a queue for a new card.
"It gives us pleasure to know that they are not expiring anymore, in the sense that we don't have to follow long queues, we don't have to update our details, and we don't have to worry about our SASSA money is in Jeopardy or not."
However, pensioner Suzy Pillay says the U-turn left many frustrated.
She says more than 900 beneficiaries began renewing their old cards in Ward 23 in Reservoir Hills.
"And I mean, on the 24th, we went through hell, and in that case, we wouldn’t have to send everybody else from David Lendo. All the seniors, those poor people, went through hell, and they now coming telling us they are not expiring. That's a joke.
"So many of them can barely walk. They had to come because they got petrified and scared that it was going to expire, and you know, the month before, they never got paid at all, so all that fear got into these poor people."
