Agrizzi, who was denied bail by the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in a fraud and corruption case involving former African National Congress MP Vincent Smith on Wednesday, was moved from prison to hospital on Thursday.

He was moved after his health deteriorated.

Agrizzi's lawyer Daniel Witz says his client was in a stable condition through the night.

"We are waiting for his health team to provide us with an update."

Witz says they have already served the papers to appeal the decision to deny Agrizzi bail and are now waiting for the high court to provide them with a date.

Agrizzi was denied bail after the court ruled that his foreign assets make him a flight risk.

"If he gets released from the hospital, he will have to return to the correctional facility. He is a ward of the state," says Witz.
