It also would have also been the start of the trial of the man accused of killing the 28-year-old, but proceedings have been delayed.

It's alleged a drunk Velile Hlongwa slammed into Carrie's motorbike with his vehicle in Morningside.

Hlongwa is facing charges of culpable homicide, reckless or negligent driving and contravening the National Road Traffic Act - by failing a breathalyser test.

Advocate Paul Jorgensen, who is representing Hlongwa, told the court that he had come ready to proceed today but was then given a new charge sheet - with failing a breathalyser test, an additional charge that's only now been included as well as two new witness statements.

In light of this, Jorgensen says, he needs to amend the plea he's prepared.

He also says he's now learnt that a claim's been lodged with the Road Accident Fund and needs more time to investigate this.

An adjournment has been granted until late January for a pre-trial conference and the trial will now start in May.
