ANCYL official arrested over fatal sjambokking
The ANC Youth League chairman of the Johannesburg Inner City branch has been arrested for allegedly sjambokking his girlfriend until she died.
According to the Star Newspaper - the beating apparently happened on Saturday night after the man returned to their Yeoville home from the Youth League's National Congress - which was held in Midrand over the weekend.
The woman was apparently not home when he came back from the congress. It's alleged he went looking for her at various places until he found her and took her back home where they argued and he allegedly started lashing her.
The woman is said to have suffered open wounds across her entire body.
Johannesburg police say the suspect - who is also a member of the local community policing forum - handed himself in on Monday.
