Dlamini, who is the league's president, is up for nomination later this year for a second term at the helm.

The former social development minister was on Wednesday found guilty of perjury by the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court.

Magistrate Betty Khumalo said she was satisfied the State had proved its case that Dlamini had given false information under oath at a 2017 inquiry, instituted by the Constitutional Court, into the social grants payment crisis.

"The African National Congress Women's League has noted the ruling on the perjury case against our President Cde Bathabile Dlamini at the Johannesburg Magistrate court yesterday," says secretary-general Meokgo Matuba.

"We are currently studying the ruling and we are in no position to communicate anything with regards to the matter until further notice."

Dlamini is expected to be sentenced next month.

"Should the court decide to impose a fine as a sentence option then the fine should be a hefty one so that it sends a clear message to all public servants out there, especially those that hold higher offices within the public sector, that such dishonesty cannot be tolerated," says Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.
