The ANC Women's League says it has asked that there is an adequate representation of women when the mayoral and Executive Committee posts are filled in eThekwini and Msunduzi.
The group met yesterday with the ruling party's provincial leaders in Durban -- a day after Zandile Gumede was shown the door.

The league says it supports the decision to recall non-performing political leaders, regardless of who they are.Earlier, women's league president, Bathabile Dlamini had expressed her unhappiness over the decision to redeploy the corruption-accused former eThekwini mayor.
The group's Meokgo Matuba says women must be replaced by women.
"We have made our request to the leadership of the ANC to say that, since 2016, we have seen a regression. Therefore we are requesting that the leadership of the ANC, when they deal with replacements, that women should be replaced by women," she said.

The mayoral chain was taken away from Gumede on Tuesday. She had been on special leave since May. This after being arrested in connection with what the Hawks believe was a dodgy multi-million Rand waste removal tender, dating back to 2016.
Gumede is due back in court again in January. She is currently out on R50,000 bail.
Former Deputy Mayor, Fawzia Peer had been acting mayor in her absence. But she too has been removed following the ANC's decision to redeploy all its members from EXCO positions at eThekwini and Msunduzi.
