ANCWL defends Mokonyane

The ANC Women's League (ANCWL) has expressed dismay at what it calls a smear campaign to discredit Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane.

This comes after reports that the Department of Water and Sanitation is in a financial crisis.
ANCWL Secretary General Meokgo Matuba says in most instances they don't believe what they read in the newspapers.
"There is always two sides to a story. In terms of what I checked from the department you will see that the media in South Africa does not report fairly. They just want to sell their newspapers and sell money," says Matuba.
Matuba says the smear campaign is driven by hatred towards black women.
"The vicious character assassination campaign unleashed by these fanatics of patriarchy and racism is driven by a hatred towards black women who have earned their stripes to lead various sectors of society," says Mathuba.
