The third-largest region in KZN hosted its 8th elective conference in Mtubatuba this past weekend.

Musa Cebekhulu was voted regional chairperson and Phiweyinkosi Mhlongo his deputy.

Madanga Xulu is the regional secretary, Babhekile Mthembu the deputy secretary and Simangaliso Mgenge's the head of treasury.

Speaking at a media briefing, Cebekhulu said they need to fill the social gap between the ANC and the people.

The party lost control of Mhlathuze and King Cetshwayo to the IFP in last year's local government elections.

"The collective also has to reposition Musa Dladla region as a force to be reckoned with in the provincial and national political space. It's also required to lead the process, to scrutinize and come up with solutions on how to rectify our mistakes at the moment.

"We noted with keen interested the analysis of the voting patterns and also noticed there is a social gap between the ANC and the masses of which we have to work on."

Cebekhulu stressed that there are no winners or losers at their conference.

"If we want to safeguard this movement and redeem it's integrity, we have to strive for maximum unity and be able to work with every member of the movement going forward. So there are no winners and losers."
