ANC will always face challenges: Gigaba
Updated | By Jacaranda FM & Algoa FM
ANC NEC member, Malusi Gigaba, says the party will always have challenges going into any election.
Gigaba says prior to the 2011 national elections the opposition said Nkandla would cost the ANC, but the party was still able to win those elections. Gigaba says they will also win the upcoming local government elections.
"We were told that the HIV/AIDS policies were going to cost us. We were told that Nkandla was going to cost us. We also expect that the opposition will try to sensationalise whatever challenges that are there so that they try to make the most political gains," he said.
Meanwhile the DA in Nelson Mandela Bay says it will be going to court over the removal of a banner the party had erected on a building earlier this week.
The banner in ANC colours read "Danny Jordaan, proudly brought to you by Jacob Zuma".
DA mayoral candidate Athol Trollip says they do not believe they broke any laws.
"First of all we do not believe that we have broken any law and we do not believe the mayor has the authority to just unilaterally ban the banner and tell the company that erected it to take it down," he said.
"We do live in a constitutional democracy and Thabo Mbeki was alerting the ANC to that last week in his open letter yet here we have a mayor who takes a unilateral decision that the banner should be removed," Trollip said.
