ANC welcomes Mkhize's decision to appear before integrity commission

The African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed Health Minister Zweli Mkhize’s decision to appear before the party’s integrity commission.
Mkhize faces public backlash after he was allegedly implicated in a corruption scandal at the Health Department.
Mkhize’s son Dedani, close family friend Tahera Mather and former personal assistant Naadhira Mitha are also accused of unduly benefiting from the R150 million tender awarded to communications company Digital Vibes during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mkhize sent a letter to the ANC’s integrity commission over the week, asking to explain his side of the Digital Vibes story.

ANC deputy secretary-general Jesse Duarte says Mkhize’s move is in line with the governing party’s 54th conference resolutions.
“We welcome the efforts by the ANC-led government to strengthen law enforcement agencies to allow for swift identification and prosecution of corruption and fraud and the insurance that there will be no political interference whatsoever in the work of these agencies,” Duarte told media on Tuesday.
Earlier, Mkhize was also placed on special leave pending an investigation by the Special Investigating Unit.
