The party won the majority of the 1 846 seats in the province, securing 1 076 seats across all municipalities, districts and wards.

ANC KZN spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntulti says the party would start delivering on its promises of municipal services it made to voters in its manifesto, as soon as possible.

"Roads, infrastructure, issues of electricity, those are the things [that] we call the bread and butter and those are the things that must be at the centre of our priority at all our municipalities.

"There's no time to rest, these councillors must build their office and they must start to do their work so that we come back to our people and we deliver to all the commitments we have made," he said.

Meanwhile, the ANC Youth League in Gauteng is expected to brief the media on the results of last week's local government elections, today.

This follows a decline in the ANC’s support in Nelson Mandela Bay, Tshwane, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.
