The ruling party will seek solutions to the country's economic woes, with issues such as state capture and corruption also due to be discussed.

Delegates have been warned that no divisive songs will be allowed. Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says they don't expect any disruptions.

"We can't expect disruptions during a meeting of the ANC and those who want to disrupt the ANC will be disrupted themselves."

Mantashe says it is unfortunate that some ANC stalwarts have chosen to boycott the conference.

"The stalwarts agreed, first, on the two days and then said no, they want the national consultative conference in terms that they have determined and we couldn't agree," Mantashe says.

The stalwarts wanted a consultative conference separate from the policy conference. Instead, the ANC will use the first two days to discuss issues affecting the party.
