ANC pays tribute to bus crash victims

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe says the lives of the 10 party volunteers who died in Sunday's horror bus crash in the Free State must not have been lost in vain.

Mantashe made the comment at their memorial service in Ekurhuleni in Gauteng yesterday.
The volunteers had been returning home from the ANC's manifesto launch in Port Elizabeth when their bus overturned on the N1.

He said their deaths would have been in vain if the party does not do well at the polls in the upcoming local government elections.
"We must unify ourselves. If we don't perform on August 3, we would have let them down and everybody will then say - why did they die? Our enemies are prepared to spend billions to destroy us," he said.
