ANC KZN upbeat despite Electoral Court application withdrawal
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The African National Congress (ANC) says it's putting on hold its court application to have the IEC reopen the registration for candidates for the upcoming local government elections.
It says it will wait for the Constitutional Court to make a decision on application by the electoral commission to postpone the polls due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The party missed last week's deadline to submit candidates in nearly three dozen municipalities.
It claimed there were technical glitches with the IEC systems.
ANC provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli says despite this, they're upbeat.
"We are confident that the ANC will emerge victorious in the respected local government elections whether they rake place in October 2021 or any other date to determine following the ongoing court processes."
