ANC KZN: Party is not in crisis
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The African National Congress in KwaZulu Natal has dismissed comments made by former KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu, that the party in in crisis.
In an interview with a Sunday newspaper
Mchunu said he believed that president Jacob Zuma and his supporters’ denial of
the crisis is at the centre of the ruling party’s problems.
ANC KZN Spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli says Mchunu is seeking ways to stay relevant ahead of the ANC's National Conference.
Ntuli says while there are challenges in the party, these can’t be equated to an organisation that is falling apart.
"Comrade Senzo is looking for an opportunity to profile himself. He lost in the provincial conference of the ANC, he's still in court with some of his people that work with him to undermine the leadership. He's going to go around to look for all manner of things that will catch the headlines in order to put him in the limelight and the attention of our branches," he says.
Meanwhile, campaigning for the ANC’s leadership position is gaining momentum – as the party heads to its elective conference in December.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa was at the Shembe church recently, asking its leaders to pray for the ANC.
Another firm favourite to lead the party, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is in the province today.
Dlamini Zuma will be delivering the Steven Dlamini lecture in Ixopo.
