ANC in KZN defends cabinet reshuffle
Defending its decision to reshuffle the KwaZulu-Natal government’s cabinet, the ANC in the province yesterday said no one had the right to tell it what to do.
"We wish to dismiss as naked opportunism the growing chorus of criticism that has been levelled against the movement over the recent cabinet reshuffle," provincial secretary Super Zuma said.
The ANC had its own internal processes and a right to decide where to deploy its members.
"The deployees of the ANC are given a mandate and are, therefore, subjected to constant evaluation of the task given to them and the impact of their work in changing the lives of the people."
He said the evaluation was done according to tried and tested internal mechanisms.
“It is therefore unfortunate that there are people who have no understanding of how we conduct our business, but they have the temerity to cast aspersion on our rigorous processes."
Full confidence in new deployees
Zuma said the party believed that reports linking the cabinet reshuffle to factions in the province were meant to cause divisions.
He said the party had full confidence in its new deployees."We know that they will devote every sinew of their collective strength to the task at hand and in the best interest of our people.
"He rejected suggestions that the rise in the protests in the province was due to unhappiness with the election candidate list processes. The party listened to the concerns of its supporters, but no amount of unhappiness could justify the destruction of property, he said.
