The Youth League's Mfundo Mokoena was shot and killed in the Adams Mission area, south of Durban on Monday night.

Police say the 35-year-old was gunned down outside his home.

"The organisations really lost. We lost one of our future leaders," says the ANC's Musa Nciki.

"He is a guy with a lot of humanity, a very intelligent young person. He will argue and be independent on some issues. He believed in what he believed in without any persuasion."

Nciki's warned people not to get involved in insensitive speculation about the circumstances surrounding Mokoena's death, saying police are still investigating the motive for the attack.

"Once people start speculating, you are disturbing the work of law enforcement. And when we speculate within the movement we are creating unnecessary tension within the movement."
