ANC hits back at animal rights activist over Misuzulu lion hunt
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal says it won't entertain
any attempts to divide residents along cultural lines.
The party's been reacting to a news article about the lion hunting ritual performed by AmaZulu King MisuZulu KaZwelithini.
It formed part of the monarch's traditional rite of passage in the run-up to the entering the kraal ceremony and his coronation on Saturday.
Smaragda Louw of Ban Animal Trading told the Sunday Times that change is needed when traditional practices become harmful to people or the environment.
But the ANC says the royal family had a permit, a professional hunter and a conservation officer present throughout the process.
Meanwhile, the newly crowned king has thanked President Cyril Ramaphosa for recognising him as the rightful Zulu monarch amid a feud over who should succeed the late King Goodwill Zwelithini.

“Thank you so much to his excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa that he has supported the Zulu nation with boldness and dignity and has given the Kingship certificate directly to me.”
