The ANC in KZN has established a task team to determine whether the recent killings of members in Newcastle have anything to do with party infighting.

The party's Super Zuma briefed the media on the issue in Durban yesterday.

"Once they finalise the investigation, the ANC task team will report back to the party and the relevant structures will decide what to do based on the report they receive," he said.

The ANC says 11 party members have been killed in recent violence in the province.

In the latest incident, ward candidate, Thembi Mbongo was gunned down in front of her family at their Osizweni home in northern KZN on Saturday.

Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says the motive for the shooting is still being probed.

"Our suspicions are raised by the fact that she was a councillor candidate in that area. We cannot fully confirm because we haven't even caught the perpetrators. The motive is known by the person who committed the murder. Once we investigate or interrogate that person after he or she has been arrested we will know exactly" he said.
