Levy Ndou says if you follow the ANC's procedures and processes, it's exactly what they were supposed to do, and what the party's constituition stipulates.

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula on Monday announced the former president's immediate suspension from the party after an NEC meeting.

The decision was taken after Zuma announced in December that he won't campaign or vote for the ANC in the general elections this year.

Despite still being a member of the organisation, he's thrown his weight behind the newly formed MK Party.

Zuma has been given 48 hours to respond.

"If he does nothing, the ANC will therefore be required to act and start the formal procedure of disciplinary committee," says Ndou.

"But such processes can take very long and according to the processes of the ANC, that it is how it's actually done."
