Provincial Secretary Super Zuma says the elective conference can now go ahead, as 75 of the 103 branches have successfully held branch general meetings.

"Now we are 100% ready to hold the eThekwini regional conference. There are contingent plans. No meeting of the ANC will be disturbed or disrupted," he said.

The initial conference at the beginning of the year saw James Nxumalo voted into the position of regional chairperson, but his victory was short-lived as the conference was declared null and void soon after, over claims of vote rigging.

There has been several other attempts to hold the conference, all of which have been disrupted.

Yesterday, the ANC Youth League announced it would be backing Zandile Gumede as chairperson.

At the same time, the Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade says their 32nd National General Conference which was due to take place this weekend has been postponed.

The Brigade's National Chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa says due to the drought affecting Ulundi and other northern parts of the province means they are unable to host the 2300 delegates expected.

"Our attempts to find an alternative venue have failed. We have therefore taken a decision to move the conference to between the 29th and 31st of January 2016.

"In all other materials or aspects in terms of the audit of branches and given that this is an elective conference, the election management commission of the party has certified itself with the audit and is ready to conduct elections," he said.
