ANC councillor candidate shot dead in Durban

Police in KwaZulu-Natal say an ANC councillor was campaigning door-to-door in Durban’s Cato Crest area, when he and another person were gunned down on Friday evening.

Siyabonga Mkhize and another party member died at the scene.
The details surrounding the shooting were still sketchy by Saturday morning.
“Two people were shot and killed while inside the car,” the police’s Thembeka Mbele says
“The deceased were 40 and 46 years and the two who were with them were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds and medical attention. The motive for the killing is unknown.“
The ANC says it’s shocked by the news, adding that Mkhize was a Ward 101 candidate.
The party says arrangements are being made to meet with the family on Saturday.
Mkhize’s murder comes less than two months after the drive-by shooting outside an Inanda primary school.
Three women attending an ANC meeting were killed.
